Austin....Texas Governor George Bush has raised millions of dollars
in campaign contributions from developers directly benefitting from
statutes exempting them from local growth management ordinances, according
to documents released today by Texas Public Employees for Environmental
Responsibility (TexasPEER).
During his tenure as Governor, George W. Bush has supported and signed
into law a number of measures which strip local communities of their
ability to manage growth or to address environmental problems in their
own backyards. The developers and business associations who benefit
from these bills have contributed directly and repeatedly to Bush
campaign funds.
"Growth management is now an oxymoron in Texas ," stated Texas PEER
Coordinator Erin Rogers. "These bills have set clear precedents for
simply buying state exemptions when local rules threaten to block
or limit development."
NOTE: The Texas PEER web site has set up special links for tracing
campaign contributions from the beneficiaries of political favors
by the Governor.
