| We met again last week. Industry was supposed to come to this meeting with reactions to and suggestions regarding three draft proposals sent out by Saitas (copies are in your mailbox). It turned into less of that and more of a session questioning the reasons for addressing this situation (they said we hadn't even characterized it as a "problem" so I won't use that word - they certainly don't think it's a problem). The general reaction from some of the more powerful groups (TAB, TMOGA, utilities) is "why now, why so fast, why at all?" Several of the groups were still seeking input from their members (TCC) so much of the reaction to the proposals will have to wait until the next meeting (Fri., 1/31/97 at 1:30 p.m.). There were some interesting moments, however, as Pat Finn chimed in with some dissent from the industry line, noting the unfairness as some facilities are forced to become permitted while identical facilities in identical circumstances are "grandfathered" (the implication being that if the agency had more resources we would probably have a lot more facilities under permit. |
